Shimomura and Mackey find silver at National Collegiate Championships

Keylin Mackey, Jr. Nationals silver medalist in the 85kg class, added another silver medal to his collection at this year's Collegiate Nationals in Shreveport, LA.  Keylin went 5 for 6 and pr's in snatch, clean and jerk as well as total.  Making 121 and 151 for a 272 total, Keylin upped his Jr. Nationals total by 11 kilos. 

 

Also winning silver this weekend in Shreveport was Hassle Free asst. coach Kari Shimomura.  Going 4 for 6 with a pr total of 146 kilos, Kari played both the role of coach and athlete, a tough task, in Louisiana this weekend.

 

Donovan Ford also participated, finishing 4th in the 105 kg class. Dononvan is nursing a sore elbow and purposely went light at this competition.

 

On the west coast that same day, 17-under world team members Sae Vang and Brandell Sampson showed that they were ready to take on the challeng in Chiang Mai as each pr'd in the snatch by 2 and 3 kilos respectively.  Sae improved his snatch to 82 kilos in the 56 kg class and Brandell snatched 120 in the 105 kilo class.

 

Watch out, because its full speed ahead to London.

Hassle Free Sending 7 athletes to this week's Collegiate Nationals

Coming up this weekend in Shreveport, LA is the 2009 National Collegiate Championship. Hassle Free will once again be well represented with 7 athletes participating.

The women are led by Kari Shimomura lifting in the 69kg class and ranked second on the start list.

 

Hassle Free Well Represented in US Weightlifting Team Rankings

The new USAW World Team Rankings were updated recently to reflect  the results from the recent US Junior National and Pan Am Qualifying meet held in Foster City, CA. Hassle Free was well represented with 6 athletes making their respective World Team. Congratulations are in order for these talented lifters as they prepare to travel half-way around the world to represent USA Weightlifting.

Dr. Randall Strossen Drops by to Photograph Hassle Free Sacramento in action

On Wednesday, April 1, Dr. Randall Strossen of Ironmind and Milo Magazine stopped by Sacramento High School to observe and photograph the Hassle Free Weightlifting team go through a typical daily workout. Not only did Coach Paul Doherty have his usual 3rd period PE class, but with permission of both principals and teachers we were able to get most of the Hassle Free Weightlifting team out of class to join in this very special occasion.
